It LIVES!
So, here I am. New computer innards and lots of slick speed.
It also cause me no end of stress. So much, I gave myself some illness. I ended having a 40 degree fever on Wednesday.(Cant remember that F scale anymore...so sue me ) Dont ask me to spell Fahrenheit either...that shit is far too complicated!
Anyhoo, nice fast computer that now runs Age Of Conan makes me happy.

compy upgrade
well, hopefully in less than 24 hours this computer will be running faster and better...kinda like the 6 million dollar man. Though I only plan to spend 50,000 yen. If I never return, you know the reason behind my demise.
Ill be getting a dual core, a high speed vid card and 4 gig of ram...plus the motherboard to hold all that crap. Lets see if I can do it all with a Japanese OS...whoo hoo! funtimes.
Wish me luck.

greasy stomach
Blech. So, the freezer was open for most of the day today. It was pretty full of stuff because we got a grocery delivery last evening and hadnt had a chance to consume any of it. Well, since all the frozen stuff thawed today, we have to eat as much as we can stomach before tomorrow. We had some shabu shabu meat with sauce as well as mini side dish koroke...ALL of those oily bastards! Not to mention the harumake (egg rolls)which pretty much swim in grease. Taken in moderation, all of these foods are eaten by my family, but all at once and at the same time...Good Lord. Dessert was sloppy icecream and half frozen blueberries. I will be having indigestion as well as interrupted sleep.

Double Yippie Skippy!
Well, On Monday I picked up a 120 Gig HD for the PS3. I cant believe how cheap and easy it all was to make the switch from 20G to that extra 100. After some unplugging and unscrewing it just slid out and was replaced in less than 5 minutes. A quick format of the drive and I was good to go. I dumped all my gamesaves from that flashdrive I picked up last week and I am TOTALLY set. I also bought Soul Caliber 4 and Ive been having fun with the character creation and modify tool. Too bad im really sucky at fighting games. Unlocking some of the more interesting costume pieces requires me to be somewhat good at the game...which I will never be.
Now i can devote all my money saved to the PC upgrade...which ought to run over the 50,000 yen mark. eck.

Yippie for me
More gaming nerd stuff. Anyhow, I got the PS3 in Japan relatively early, but because of budget constraints, i picked up the 20 Gig version. Mistake. Games have required downloads of over 8 gigs nowadays...That leaves no space for other games or gamesaves...let alone music or pictures of the munchkin. So.... I decided to pick up a new Serial ATA laptop HD that just so happens to be completely compatible with PS3s. I havent got it yet, but Ive set aside the cash and I kinda know what I want. The problem I had with doing that was losing all the ga,e data from the other games Ive been playing. Since I almost never complete a game, but often return to them from time to time, I was disheartened to think Id lose them all once I switched internal HDs. HOWEVER, I just got a cheapo flash memory stick and copied all my gamesaves and game data onto it (Which I had though would be impossible). Now Im set, and just need to buy the HD! Then probably Soul Caliber 4...because I wanna create a hero just like COH...ahhh the memories.

the Waiting is over
The waiting is over, and the disappointment BEGINS"!
Yeah, so just like I predicted, my system cannot handle the adult content of Age of Conan...Either that or my specs are outdated. Sadly, about an hour after I activated my account, I had to cancel my subscription. hmmm I just dont have the money to upgrade to a system that can handle it. I wouldnt want something that just barely makes the specs...If I were to invest in a new compy, it would have to last another 3.5 years. That costs moolah. Which I do not have.

The Wait
The Wait continues. I ordered Age of Conan a few weeks ago from Hong Kong (a reliable company, don't worry). and now read the fine print about the shipping situation. From 5 to 14 days delivery is what I'm at right now. That was something I could stomach. But the fine print said something along the lines of "In certain situations, it could take as long as 5 weeks". swell. Well, I'm still in my original timeframe so I should be optimistic. Though, I probably can't run the thing on my rig anyhow. Thats me being pessimistic.

Plague doctor
I havent taken a look at IMDB or anything to see if this has already been done...But.. A Terry Gilliamesque (ala 12 monkeys) movie about a plague doctor. Man, those uniforms are a true horror-show! Beaks with goggles and long coats and dark breaches...all waxed up. yikes. pointing cane and of course probably HELPING the fleas move around the European and Asian cities to further infect the populace. Filmed in B&W or washed out colours...man. a freakshow movie Id love to see.

Flock
So, turns out it WAS Netscape browser that completely HATED LJ. It took upwards of a full minute to load the page...worked fine on almost any OTHER page (Facebook was also zoinked). So, when I heard that Netscape was gone forever with no more support. I turned to sumfin new. And here it is. Flock. LJ loads up with no problems. Is it any good? Well, I just started an hour ago, but no zoinking as of yet, so far so good. Why not IE? Silly rabbit. Im not expecting anything to unseat that giant of a browser. Flock seems pretty simple and a lot less bloated with crap. There you have it. Ill update this if Flock ends up nuking my bookmarks or something worse.

Gary Gygax R.I.P.
Gary Gygax creator of D&D died. He was 69 years old. If I were to think back and try to trace my geekyness and weirdo-ness...It would have to be probably the introduction to StarWars to my imagination. If I were to trace back the roots of the first constructive use of my newly formed geeky imagination, I would have to say D&D first edition (red Box) game with my friend Garth right around spring of 1981. Garth was the DM and I had a fighter class. I was also playing this with Garths younger brother because it seemed we were the only people who had played D&D in all of Winnipeg. We had just finished PASTING some ogres in a dungeon of his creating (that I had a HELL of a time recreating on graph paper), when he told me I had just found a magical shield in the ogres treasure hoard. "What kind of magical shield"? I ask. "Well, It is circular with the image of a deadly serpent painted on the surface". Said he. "O-RLY?... Ill take a close look at this serpent image". I responded with a greedy twinkle in my eye. "Make an intelligence roll". "CRUD!" But I apparently made that difficult roll (Me being a fighter of course...INT almost as useless CHA). And he told me about the secret magical word lightly painted on the inside of the scales. When shouted aloud, the serpent sprung forth from the shield and bit/poisoned any foe in front of me.
I then: 1.) Made my very first inspired drawing of its likeness onto a notebook of song lyrics I had attempted to write out from listening to the radio (I recall Straycat Strut as being one of them). 2.) Proceded to convince Garth that it would be my PRIMARY weapon, and not my shield. I often caught myself using it as a Capt America throwing shield into piles of monsters. I once tied a rope to it and swung it in a wide arcing circle dispatching dozens or goblins!! IT WAS AWESOME. Since then I have played countless campaigns. Culminating with a 1 year almost NIGHTLY game in Uni. I have since had more difficulty getting together pen and paper RPGs here in Japan, so Ive become completely devoted to my compy games.
Thank you Gary for allowing me and my friends to gather together and throw our imaginations around like nerf balls over the years. Thank you Gary for creating a game that spawned computer game genres and inpired millions of writers and designers that I tend to relate to. Thank you for inspiring Final Fantasy,Diablo,Warcraft,NeverWinter,Balders Gate,Lunar,Icewind,Wizardry, and another hundred games Ive played.
No worries Gary, just roll another character mate.

Feeling Better
I got a nice e-mail from my friend Mike. He explained that depression is at it most evil when convincing the person that nothing can be done about it. I dont think what I have can be considered clinical or that I need professional help and/or drugs...So I guess that means it won. Regardless, I feel better because of the letter in part, but MOSTLY because of the pirate story my daughter told me on the train home from her daycare. You see, she found a small plastic flower painted silver with plastic gems glued to the petals. She found it in the sand area of her playground. Or more specifically: BURIED in the sand. Which she then proceded to tell me how pirates buried it there and then came back looking for it. She tried hiding it again, but by then they knew who she was. She then tricked the sceevy pirates by burying a FAKE silver flower on an island nearby. As they were digging the area up, she quickly made off with their pirate ship. She cleaned it up so it was nice and sparkly with the help of her 67 crew members. (and pet shark...which she had saved from a watery predicament that involved a large boulder and the entrance to the shark-cave).
My daughter related this tale to me through the entire train ride (about 25 minutes). By the end of the ride we were both giggling and finding it hard to be quiet.
That is why I think what I had was minor, or at least hope it was.

Lately
I can neither express myself in flowery prose, nor emphasize my writing with good grammar and a plethora of adjectives. So Ill just say what I want to say how I say it. Feeling depressed and lonely lately. Odd, since a wife and child are sitting 2 feet behind me. Ive started distancing myself yet again. Ive come to recognize this trend. Final year of high school was one of the most pathetic years of my life. I closed off and felt immensely sorry for myself. For a whole year. Made the official "best year of youth" into one of akwardness. Final year of University: I remember sitting in the 2 bedroom apartment that I shared with no-one under the window of my bedroom listening to the sounds of a party and wondering if I should seethe with hate or just feel sorry for myself again. I was no serial killer in the making so I did what I was most comfortable with. 2nd year out of Uni: I ran. VERY far away. All the way to Japan where maybe I could start new. Leave whatever made me shy and weird behind. It worked! Well, It was working for like 10 years. But I sat in the bath for an hour and a half tonight as my family watched a show I wasnt invited to watch because of my laziness to learn the language of my adopted home. I was feeling that old familiar sting of self-pity once again. And here it is in written form. What is this? a call for help? I dont know, I have nothing to feel depressed about anyhow. Just like I never really had anything to feel depressed about those other famous times in my life. Just my fear of... something that I cant even recognize driving this bus of loathing. I hate myself for not doing a thing about hating myself for not doing a thing. Hopefully, it's something I ate, but I know better. I just didnt recognize it the first week for what it was. Welcome back. How did you find me? Fucker.

Translation
Oh, in case you were wondering (because I certainly was). the translation of ME, Mr. Akkadian is this: When heaven above was not yet named, nor earth below pronounced by name, Apsu, the first one, their begetter and maker Tiamat, who bore them all, had mixed their waters together, but had not formed pastures, nor discovered reed-beds. When yet no gods were manifest, nor names pronounced, nor destinies decreed, then gods were born within them.

Too lazy to post anything but a meme
My score on The Which Ancient Language Are You Test: Akkadian
(You scored) You are Akkadian, a blend of the incomprehensible symbols of the Sumerians with the unwritable sounds of the early Semitic peoples. However, the writing just doesn't suit the words and doesn't represent everything needed, so you end up a schizoid mess. Invented in Babylon, you're probably to blame for that tower story. However, crazy as you are, you're much loved and appreciated, and remain actively in use by records keepers long after schools have switched to other languages. Yoinked from FS
So, dodihochez, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 13% unique (blame, for example, your interest in super robot wars taisen) and 13% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy skiing). When it comes to friends you are lonely. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual.
Your overall weirdness is: 58(The average level of weirdness is: 27. You are weirder than 93% of other LJers.)
Find out what your weirdness level is!
Cool! Im so much weirder than most! But its a lonely weird. So very lonely.

They have my blessing
So, tonight the family watched the movie Spiderman 2 (it was being broadcast since Spidey 3 will open May 1st in Tokyo Im assuming).
Anyhow, Korin stated that she would like to marry Spiderman.
This was the first time she has mentioned marriage and boyfriends etc.... I had always figured the first time she mentioned that would terrify me beyond all rational thought.
But, Spiderman?
Hell yeah!
